How to Fix LDAC Audio Stuttering on the Sony WH-1000XM6
Causes

- Physical distance or body obstruction between the source device and headphones reduces received signal strength below LDAC's minimum threshold — unlike SBC or AAC, LDAC has no graceful degradation below approximately 330 kbps and instead drops entire packets, creating jarring silences
- Background Wi-Fi activity on the source device (cloud syncs, system updates, video streaming) competes with Bluetooth for radio time via the device's Wi-Fi/Bluetooth coexistence mechanism — when the Wi-Fi modem transmits, the LDAC stream is starved of transmission slots and buffer underruns occur
How to Fix
- Switch LDAC to "Stable Connection Priority" in Sony Headphones Connect: Sound → Bluetooth Connection Quality → select "Stable Connection". This caps LDAC at 660 kbps with a more robust error correction profile and resolves ~90% of dropouts while retaining near-lossless sound quality that is audibly indistinguishable from 990 kbps in blind tests
