How to Fix PD Pass-Through Charging Not Working on the UGREEN Revodok Pro 106

Causes

  • Using a low-wattage or non-PD charger — the Revodok Pro 106 requires a USB-C Power Delivery 3.0 charger rated for at least 65W to pass through meaningful power to the host laptop. A standard 18W phone charger or a USB-A to USB-C cable cannot deliver PD at all.
  • Plugging the charger into the wrong USB-C port — the hub has one dedicated PD input port (marked with a power icon) and two USB-C data ports (10Gbps only, no charging input). Connecting the charger to a data port will not charge the laptop.
  • Insufficient power margin for both the hub and the laptop — the 100W PD input is split: up to 15W powers the hub's internal circuitry and connected peripherals, leaving up to 85W for the laptop. If peripherals draw more power, the laptop receives less, which can appear as "charging but not gaining battery" or intermittent charging.
  • Faulty or non-compliant USB-C cable between the charger and hub — a cable rated for 60W (3A) cannot safely carry 100W (5A). If the cable lacks an e-marker chip, the hub and laptop will negotiate a lower power level (often 15W or 60W), resulting in slow charging or no charging.
  • Host laptop's USB-C port does not support PD charging input — some laptops (especially older models) have USB-C ports that are output-only or do not accept power input. Additionally, connecting the hub to a Thunderbolt 3/4 port on certain laptops may require the charger to be plugged in before connecting the hub to the laptop.

How to Fix

  1. Verify you are using a USB-C PD 3.0 charger rated for at least 65W (100W recommended). The charger must support the USB-C Power Delivery protocol — look for "USB PD 3.0" or "PPS" on the charger label. Do not use a charger that only supports Qualcomm Quick Charge (QC) or other proprietary standards.
  2. Plug the charger into the correct port on the hub: the USB-C PD input port is the one marked with a power icon (⚡) on the hub body. The two other USB-C ports on the Revodok Pro 106 are data-only 10Gbps ports and do not accept charging input. Refer to the markings printed on the hub's aluminum casing if unsure.
  3. Use a certified USB-C to USB-C cable rated for 100W (5A) with an e-marker chip. Look for cables labeled "240W" or "100W USB 3.2 Gen 2" — these have the e-marker needed for proper PD negotiation. The cable that came with your 100W charger is the ideal choice; avoid using a cheap third-party cable that may be rated for 60W or less.
  4. Connect the components in the correct order: first plug the charger into the hub's PD port, then connect the hub to your laptop. This ensures the hub has power available for PD negotiation as soon as the laptop connects. If you connect the laptop first, the hub may enumerate as a low-power device and fail to negotiate high-wattage charging.
  5. Check the laptop's charging status: on macOS, click the battery icon in the menu bar — it should show "Power Source: Power Adapter" and may display wattage. On Windows 11, check Settings > System > Power & Battery — it should show "Plugged In" with the estimated charging rate. On a Mac, you can also use the free "ChargeMon" app or the terminal command pmset -g batt to see the actual wattage being delivered.
  6. Disconnect unnecessary USB peripherals from the hub during charging. Each connected device draws power from the hub's internal circuitry, reducing the amount available for pass-through. If you have power-hungry USB devices (external SSDs, bus-powered hard drives), connect them directly to the laptop instead, or use a powered USB hub downstream.
  7. Update your laptop's firmware and Thunderbolt/USB-C controller drivers. On Windows, check the manufacturer's support site for the latest Thunderbolt or USB4 driver. On macOS, ensure you are running the latest macOS version via System Settings > General > Software Update. Apple has released several updates that improve PD negotiation behavior with third-party hubs.
  8. Test with a different PD charger and cable combination to isolate the issue. Borrow a friend's 100W MacBook charger or use a known-good 100W GaN charger. If the laptop charges correctly with a different charger through the hub, the original charger or cable is the problem.
