Framework 240W USB-C GaN Power Adapter
Overview
The Framework 240W USB-C GaN Power Adapter is the first standards-compliant 240W USB-C PD power adapter ever sold by a computer company, delivering a true 240W (48V/5A) over a single USB-C port using USB PD 3.1 Extended Power Range (EPR) technology with Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS). Announced in August 2025 alongside the Framework Laptop 16's RTX 5070 Graphics Module upgrade, it replaces the 180W adapter for users who need maximum sustained power — solving the battery drain issue that could occur during intensive gaming on the fully-loaded Framework Laptop 16. Built with GaN technology, the compact brick weighs approximately 400g and features user-replaceable detachable cables for both AC input and USB-C output, making it a durable and serviceable alternative to competing chargers with captive cables.
Key Highlights
-
First standards-compliant 240W USB-C PD power adapter ever sold by a computer company — delivers a true 240W (48V/5A) over a single USB-C port using PD 3.1 Extended Power Range (EPR) with AVS support
-
GaN (Gallium Nitride) technology delivers high power density in a compact brick form factor that is only marginally longer than Framework's 180W adapter (116.6 x 58.2 x 27mm), weighing approximately 400g
-
Designed to prevent battery drain on Framework Laptop 16 while gaming — the 180W adapter could not fully power and charge a maxed-out system simultaneously, but 240W eliminates this issue
-
Detachable AC power cord and USB-C to USB-C cable included, with both cables being user-replaceable — no captive cables that force brick replacement if a cord is damaged
-
Compatible with any USB-C PD 3.1 EPR device for 240W charging, and backward compatible with PD 3.0 and earlier standards for universal device charging at lower power levels
